A retrospective survey exhibition is currently in production, celebrating 20 years of Keiskamma Art Project’s exceptional contribution to the world of not only art, but advocacy and activism.

THE TRUST BEGAN WITH A HEALING VISION, to restore hope and dignity to people with very few resources, living at the precipice of change. It was founded in 2000 by artist and doctor, Carol Hofmeyr. Today the Keiskamma Art Project, the flagship of the greater Trust, works to maintain its founder’s vision, providing vital livelihoods through dignified work, while communicating through art, the reality of rural lives affected by both poverty and history.

95% OF OUR TEAM ARE WOMEN who are often the sole breadwinners in a family. The income earned from embroidery is inestimable in social and economic value. Further than the alleviation of poverty through work, however, our leadership is increasingly focussed on healing, education and resilience in navigating the complexities of the South African moment, and of our times.
